This setup will be very useful for experienced administrator to test/practice various volume manager configurations. I have used normal PC with 1Gb Ram/and 40gb hdd. Base OS is running on fedora
If you want to connect VMware console remotely from your desktop
Login to Linux box and find wmware authentication service port number
# grep vmware-authd /etc/services
vmware-authd 904/tcp
verify vmware –authd service is running using
#netstat –a grep vmware-authd
tcp 0 0 *:vmware-authd *:* LISTEN
Open VMware console from your system
Select remote host and specify ipaddress:portnumber and give login as root
192.168.80.5:904
Configuration
.I have installed Base Solaris 10 package with some addition packages which will enable to install Storage Foundation suite .
VERITAS storage foundation 5.0 for x86 is free downloadable from VERITAS site and you create maximum 4 volume with free version .
Since I’m not using any Xwindow manager I have chosen following configuration for Solaris 10 in vmware
Memory : 256m
HDD : 2 * 3 GB SCSI rootdisk/mirrodisk
HDD 1GB * 6 SCSI HDD.
Crete HDD based on your requirement and HDD availability
NIC : 1
Note : Make sure you are creating SCSI disks only .Volume manager will not work with IDE DISK.
Download packages
I have downloaded all the required packages on my Linux server and shared across NFS.
Since I’m using a 3gb disk for bootdisk its better to store source package outside the virtual machine
Download all packages to /home/downloads
10_x86_Recommended.zip
sxrt5.0x64_x86_5.0x64a.dvd2.tar.gz
unzip 10_x86_Recommended.zip
mkdir Veritas
cd Veritas
tar zxvf ../ sxrt5.0x64_x86_5.0x64a.dvd2.tar.gz

so where is the virtual appliance?
I checked this page numrous time looking for appliance. What is given here a how to install and configure manually.
Vmware is so irrespnsible to post link w/o even checking.
Dhanesh,
do you have an appliance to share with the community?
if so, please post a link
thanks
Adrian
I'm very pissed with that !!! Beside some errors that you're not saying on the installation (i.e. ssh will need SUNWgss to start properly) on Symantec SF Basic page says:
# Storage Foundation Basic 5.0 is available on the following platforms: Solaris 8, 9, 10 (SPARC)
http://www.symantec.com/business/theme.jsp?themeid=sfbasic
I really don't know how they allow you to publish that bullsh*t !!!!
Sorry Guys . due to my slow net connection i couldnt upload the files .
I will try to upload by this weekend
Still waiting for the appliance. Can't you find some other free hosting site that will host it for you? There's plenty out there.
Well, This is just a fake. Besides the content being WRONG and misleading in some aspects, there is no Virtual appliance. I will complain to VMware about not verifying their links, a waste of time.
Also,
Neither fsbasic nor the regular version supports x86 nowadays as far as i know, only x64:
System Requirements
Storage Foundation 5.0 Supported Operating Systems
* Solaris 8, 9 and 10 (SPARC)
* Solaris 10 (x64/Opteron)
* AIX 5.2 and 5.3
* HP-UX 11iv2 (PA-RISC and Itanium)
* Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (64-bit)
* Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (64-bit)
* Oracle Enterprise Linux
Any comment on that?

Hey Sigmund,
I meant the same thing! It's not Ok for them to keep the link for this appliance...
Sorry Dhanesh, but you should reconsider your post about the VxVM...
I have contacted VMware and within a few hours got a response, the link is moved to a moderated area until an actual appliance download is provided here. They moved fast on this one.
Chek the download link
Let me know if you have nay problem in downloding the files
sigmund,
I have uploaded vmware files .If you find it usefull , you can re enable the link to this site from vmware .
The download for part z02 does not work (anymore), it says 'file was deleted'.
¿Would you please upload the file back again?
Many thanks in advance!!
All three parts of the zip are missing from the hosting site. please upload again.
Thanks
It displays the files are deleted.... where are the files....????
Dont know how it got deleted .
Can some one suggest good site for hosting these files.
files size will be 350M.
Receive the following errors...

When I try to start the session within VMware I get this error...
File not found: Solaris 10 (2).vmdk
This file is required to power on this virtual machine. If this file was moved, please provide its new location.
Problem is with your unzip version.
I have used winzip veriosn 11 .
if you unzip using latest winzip it should work fine
after unzipping you should get file Solaris 10 (2).vmdk with around 2.2GB
The posting says that the password for root is "root", but this is not working for me.
Maybe I am the first but this a great work. It worked great for me on a VM on a Windows host. However I wonder how does the x86 veritas package works if vmware is emulating 32 bits processor? You installed the veritas 5.0 for 64bits however it is a 32bits system in the vmware how can that be?
Thanks for the work,
Nicolas.
